"Recognize yourselves and the time in which you live."
Casper David Friedrich (c. 1830)
Landscapes record a particular time, its people and their actions. While landscape’s historical role has been to establish sites of the imaginary and the ideal, I also understand it as a ground for terror. My work confronts viewers with a semi-romantic landscape that bares minimal traces of past events. Visible consequences of war and conflict such as violence, loss, defeat and death are absent in the paintings. Instead of picturing conflicts, I question their representation.
